Palos Heights Car Service: Hospital Appointments, Airport Runs, and Milestone Events
Palos Heights Car Service: Hospital Appointments, Airport Runs, and Milestone Events
Written by the Emily’s Limousine Service team. We are based in Orland Park, IL and cover all of the Chicago south suburbs. See our site at emilyslimousineservice.com.
Palos Heights is a different kind of client base than the rest of the south suburbs, and any transportation company that treats it like Tinley Park or Mokena is going to get the details wrong.
The city covers roughly 3.8 square miles with about 12,000 residents, incorporated in 1959, and sits around 20 miles southwest of downtown Chicago with Palos Forest Preserve land wrapping much of it. The demographics are distinct: recent estimates put the median age above 50 and homeownership above 90 percent, well above what you see in the surrounding communities. This is an established, settled city where most people own their home and have lived in it for a long time.
That profile drives a specific mix of transportation demand, and it looks nothing like the party bus and prom calendar that dominates the villages to the south.
Hospital and Appointment Transportation
Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital is the largest institution in the city and one of the largest employers in the area, with 425 licensed beds and more than 600 affiliated physicians serving the south and southwest suburbs.
A hospital that size in a city of 12,000 generates a steady, quiet category of transportation that almost nobody advertises for:
Procedures requiring sedation. Colonoscopies, cataract surgery, outpatient procedures of every kind. The discharge instructions say you cannot drive and you cannot take a taxi or rideshare alone. A prearranged car with a professional chauffeur solves it, and it solves it more reliably than asking a neighbor to block out a whole morning.
Regular treatment schedules. Infusion, physical therapy, cardiac rehab. Recurring appointments where the same driver and the same vehicle each week make a genuine difference.
Family who live out of state. Adult children in another city who want to make sure a parent gets to and from an appointment safely and on time. We take the booking from you and you get the confirmation.
Discharge rides. A car that shows up when it says it will, rather than a request that goes unaccepted on a Sunday afternoon.
To be clear about what this is: we provide professional car service with a chauffeur, not medical transport. We do not provide clinical care, and we are not a substitute for an ambulance or for a licensed non emergency medical transport provider when one is needed. What we provide is a clean, comfortable, punctual ride with a driver who will help with the door and the bags and will actually be there. For a lot of families, that is exactly the gap. Our black car service and chauffeur service handle these bookings in sedans and SUVs.
Airports: Palos Heights Has a Real Advantage
Midway is roughly 12 miles northeast of Palos Heights, one of the shortest airport runs of any community we serve. O’Hare is roughly 30 miles north.
That Midway proximity is worth money. A Midway transfer from Palos Heights is a shorter, less expensive trip than the same run from Mokena or Homer Glen, and the drive is far more predictable than any O’Hare run. If you are choosing between airports for a trip and the fare difference is small, the ground transportation math frequently favors Midway from here.
The nearest Metra station is Palos Park on the SouthWest Service line, about three miles away, and the SouthWest Service runs a much thinner schedule than the Rock Island line to the east, with limited weekend service. For a 4:00 a.m. departure or an evening arrival with luggage, the train is not a practical answer.
Our airport transfer service covers both airports with flight tracking on arrivals, so a delayed flight does not leave you at the curb. Our airport timing guide walks through how far ahead of a domestic or international departure to schedule pickup, and if you are weighing a reservation against an app, our black car service versus rideshare comparison covers the tradeoffs honestly.
For older travelers and international arrivals, request meet and greet service. A chauffeur waiting inside baggage claim with a name sign is a materially different experience than a text message with a plate number, and it is worth the small add on.
Milestone Events and Family Gatherings
An established city with an older median age books a different event calendar. What we run most in Palos Heights:
Anniversary and milestone birthday dinners. Fiftieth anniversaries, eightieth birthdays, family reunions. Usually a Sprinter or a small coach bringing family in from across the region.
Weddings, often for the couple’s parents’ generation as much as the couple. Guest shuttles from local hotels, and transportation for grandparents who should not be navigating a parking structure in formal shoes. Our wedding limo service covers the day, our coach bus rentals cover the guests, and our wedding transportation cost guide covers the budget.
Funeral and memorial transportation. Quiet, careful, and handled without fuss. Sedans and Sprinters, coordinated with the funeral home.
Theater, symphony, and dinner in the city. A category that skews older and books consistently. Our concert and sporting event transportation guide covers the downtown venues and drop off logistics.
Group outings. Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens draws groups, and the surrounding Palos preserves bring in cycling clubs, church groups, and organized outings that need a bus at one end or both.
A City in Transition
Palos Heights lost a landmark this year. Trinity Christian College, founded in the city in 1959 and a fixture for 66 years, closed at the end of the 2025 to 2026 academic year, holding its final commencement in May 2026. The 60 acre campus has since been listed for sale and is being marketed for redevelopment.
We mention it because it matters to how this city works. Trinity brought students, families, visiting speakers, athletic events, and commencement weekends into Palos Heights every year, and a good part of the ground transportation demand here was tied to that calendar. Whatever the campus becomes will reshape traffic patterns along College Drive and the surrounding streets, and we will adjust our routing when it does. A company that has been running vehicles through this city for decades notices these things. A dispatcher forty miles away does not.
Vehicles That Fit Palos Heights
One to six passengers. Sedan or SUV. Mercedes S Class, Cadillac XTS, Escalade, Navigator, Suburban. The default for appointments, airport runs, and dinner in the city.
Seven to fourteen. A Sprinter van with real luggage space, or the executive Sprinter for corporate travel.
Fifteen to fifty seven. Coach bus for family gatherings, guest shuttles, and organized group outings.
One local note: mature tree canopy and narrow residential streets in parts of the city mean a 57 passenger coach is not always appropriate at a residential address. We will look at the pickup point when you book and suggest a staging location if needed.
Our group transportation vehicle guide compares every option by headcount and luggage.
