Charter buses are priced in three common ways. Knowing which one fits your trip is the easiest way to avoid paying for hours you do not use.
Hourly Pricing
Hourly pricing is the standard for most local trips: weddings, corporate outings, concerts, game days and field trips. You book a block of time, the coach and chauffeur stay with your group, and you pay the hourly rate for every hour booked. Hourly works best when the bus needs to wait, make several stops or move your group more than once.
Full-Day Pricing
For trips that run 8 hours or longer, such as a college game day or an out-of-town tour, ask for a full-day quote. Long charters are often priced as a package, which keeps the math simple and gives you a clear total before you sign.
One-Way and Per-Trip Pricing
A one-way run, like dropping a group at O’Hare or a convention, still falls under the 3-hour minimum. That block covers the drive out, the drop-off and the coach’s return. When your group needs to go somewhere in the morning and come back in the evening, two separate blocks usually cost less than keeping the bus all day. We show exactly how in the trip examples below.
Minimum Hours
All of our coach buses, party buses and stretch limousines have a 3-hour minimum on hourly bookings. Sedans and Sprinter vans have a 2-hour minimum. Peak dates such as prom weekends, football Saturdays and holidays can carry longer minimums and higher rates, so book early if your date falls in a busy season.
Per-Person Cost by Coach Size
Splitting the cost is where a charter bus shines. Here is what each seat costs when the coach is full, at our starting rates and before gratuity:

Two things stand out. First, the larger coaches cost less per seat, so a 50 to 57 passenger coach is the best value when you can fill it. Second, a half-full coach doubles the per-person price. What Else Goes Into the Total
Gratuity
A standard chauffeur gratuity of 18 to 20% may be added to your total unless it is already included in your quote. On a $1,650 booking, that is $297 to $330. Always ask whether gratuity is included so you can compare quotes fairly.
Tolls
Coach buses pay higher tolls than cars. Routes that use the Illinois Tollway, the Chicago Skyway or the Indiana Toll Road add toll charges to your bill. For a local trip, tolls are usually a small line item. For a game day in Indiana, they are a bigger one.
Parking and Venue Fees
Stadiums, campuses and some downtown venues charge separate bus parking or permit fees. If your event has one, it will be listed on your quote.
Holiday and Peak Pricing

Federal safety rules limit how long a bus driver can work, and they shape the cost of long trips. Under FMCSA hours-of-service rules for passenger carriers, a driver can:
- Drive a maximum of 10 hours after 8 consecutive hours off duty
- Not drive after 15 hours on duty, and time spent waiting with the bus usually counts toward that 15
- Not exceed 60 hours on duty in 7 days, or 70 hours in 8 days
What this means for your trip: a day trip that runs longer than about 15 hours from first pickup to final drop-off needs either a second driver or an overnight stay. On overnight trips, the group typically covers the driver’s hotel room. Plan your schedule around these limits and your quote stays predictable.
